This is a great class if you’ve never worked with knit fabric.

SKILLS YOU WILL GAIN:
sewing with stretchy fabrics,
using a twin needle
Getting the correct settings for the type of fabric you use
prevent seam puckers and twisted hems
eliminate skipped stitches and keep your fabric from getting jammed into the feed dogs
measuring for a proper fit,
‍creating pockets and sewing an elastic waistband. ‍

SKILLS YOU ALREADY NEED TO HAVE:
How to set up, use, and change settings of a home sewing machine
Knowledge of how to work with a commercial pattern for a garment and experience of having sewn a garment from a pattern,
How to select the right fabric to determine the appropriateness for a pair of joggers or pants.

BRING TO CLASS: Your sewing machine or request to borrow one of ours, ballpoint needle, 1½ yd of 2" non-roll or woven elastic, 2¼ yd of stretch knit fabric with at least 25% 4‑way stretch (e.g., French terry, heavy cotton lycra, or sweatshirt fabric with lycra). Also bring pins, a marking pen, a tape measure, a rotary cutter, fabric shears, and all‑purpose thread.

One of these:   the Brassie Jogger for women or the Iron Jogger for men sewing pattern, both by Greenstyle Patterns,   ‍printed and assembled at home, or a printed A0 copy.

Don’t have time to shop, or not sure which kind of fabric to get? Get a jogger kit.
Joggers Kit Options: Choose from cotton stretch-terry cloth fabric, cotton sweatshirt fleece for $37.50, or cotton jersey for $30.93 (a lighter-weight option), with waistband elastic and all-purpose thread.

Over the course of two sessions, students will sew an oversized button-up shirt using a woven fabric and Friday Pattern Company’s Ilford Jacket pattern.

SKILLS YOU WILL GAIN:
Students will learn to sew the features of the standard collared, button-front shirt. This pattern is super versatile. It can be made into many different looks, making it a great addition to your pattern collection. It’s also a good entry point into the world of shirt-making as it features an easy-to-sew collar, button placket, and straight hem.

BRING TO CLASS:
Ilford jacket from Friday Pattern Company. The pattern comes in a tissue paper envelope and an instructional booklet. It also comes in PDF format (printed-at-home patterns must be assembled and ready to use, or bring an AO printed on full sheets)

Fabric required for the size that matches your measurements (check the pattern size chart). We’ll be making the shirt from medium-weight linen blend, cotton flannel, or shirting-woven fabric.

five buttons that are 1.5” or smaller
seam ripper
straight pins
scissors (and rotary cutter optional)
fabric marking pen or chalk
1-yard lightweight woven interfacings, such as Pellon’s SF 101.
Interfacings require pre-shrinking, just like garment fabrics do. Be sure to pre-shrink yours or get it online at Fashion Sewing Supply, where they’ve already done that for you!

This course is a great next step for students who have completed the Stitch, Style, Create series and want to advance into garment sewing. The non-gendered pattern is sized for a bust/chest 32” – 60”. If your measurements fall outside of this size range, don't hesitate to contact the studio before registering for the class.

Learning how to sew a t-shirt is a great starting class to get you comfortable with sewing knit fabric.
Students will create a short-sleeved T-shirt with a crew neckband.

You’ll also learn how to construct a T-shirt, step by step, from start to finish, mastering essential skills like cutting, stitching without seam puckers and “bubbles”, and sewing with a twin needle.

Don’t you love a 1-piece outfit you can just throw on and go? Sew a T-shirt dress in a single session! We’ll use the Laundry Day Tee pattern by Love Notions to sew a T-shirt dress you’ll get loads of wear out of.
This pattern has a flattering fit and is a quick sew, even for beginners. We’ll conduct a brief online shopping session together, then take a 2-week break to allow time for fabric delivery. Then we’ll get together for a 4-hour session to sew the dress (or top).

The pattern comes in a wide size range: 33”–58” Bust and 35”–60” Hip. If you fall outside of this size range, please get in touch with the studio before registering for the class.

Skill level: Advanced beginner. Completion of Stitch, Style, Create, or equivalent. You must have sewn at least one garment before attending this class.

Supplies Needed:
